Located along the Ken River in Madhya Pradesh, Panna is a striking landscape of teak forests, deep gorges, and cascading waterfalls. Its terrain includes plateaus and grassy savannas, making it a varied and visually dramatic park. Once facing near extinction of its tiger population, Panna is now a model of successful tiger reintroduction. Leopards, sloth bears, and gharials in the Ken River add to its wildlife wealth, while birders are treated to vultures soaring over the cliffs.
Panna National Park, once depleted of tigers, now thrives again with a recovering tiger population. Leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, and striped hyenas also roam its rugged terrain. The park is rich in herbivores like chital, nilgai, and sambar, and is also known for crocodiles basking along the Ken River. Over 200 bird species occur here, including bar-headed geese, honey buzzards, king vultures, blossom-headed parakeets, and paradise flycatchers. The mix of forests, plateaus, and rivers offers ideal conditions for both large mammals and birdlife.
